The new program, which started last summer, aims to recruit youngsters to engineering and science, and maybe the school. “I like it. It’s hands-on,” said Alyssa Spencer, 12, who attends Lenox Academy in East Flatbush. “It’s not really like in school, where we just learn about it.” It has already had an impact, said the kids, including giving them an edge in school as they get a head start on what they’ll eventually learn in science, even helping at least one student raise her grade-point average.
